We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Steel Decarbonisation to drive partnerships with key customers, research institutes and industry, and deliver ironmaking carbon emissions reduction and elimination initiatives.

This role, based in Shanghai, reports directly to the Senior Manager – Technical Marketing and dotted line reports to General Manager, Steel Decarbonisation.
Reporting to the Senior Manager – Technical Marketing, you will:
Deliver ironmaking decarbonisation partnerships with the steel industry in China
Lead research programs and analytical activities to reduce emissions intensity of Rio Tinto Iron Ore products
Develop a pipeline of scientific programs that address steel decarbonisation
Interface with key industry stakeholders on emissions related topics and represent Rio Tinto in Industry forums in China
Monitor evolving carbon, industry and environmental policies in China and communicate insights to internal stakeholders to help shape product strategy and inform investments
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in a technical discipline including environmental/metallurgical/chemical/process engineering, geology/metallurgy/chemistry/environmental science, other geoscience or mathematics/physics
Minimum 10 years engineering and operational experience in iron ore or steel industry
Deep awareness of industry and environmental policies shaping steel production
Excellent industry network in China
Fundamental or applied research experience
Strong command of English language, verbal and written
It will also be beneficial if you have:
PhD in a field related to iron making, steel making, emissions, carbon management or energy economics
